The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the official launch of the Rironi–Nakuru–Mau Summit (A8) Highway, set for Friday, November 28, 2025.
The ceremony, which will be attended by President William Ruto, is expected to cause heavy congestion along the route throughout the day.
In a public notice released on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, KeNHA urged motorists planning to use the highway to consider alternative routes or adjust their travel schedules.
“The road is envisaged to have significant traffic congestion for the whole day,” the statement read in part.
To help motorists avoid delays, KeNHA suggested several alternative routes, including Ngong–Suswa–Narok–Mau Narok–Njoro–Nakuru and Nairobi–Thika–Magumu–Njabini–Ol Kalou–Nakuru. Other options include Nakuru–Kampi ya Moto–Ravine–Makutano and Nakuru–Njoro–Molo–Mau Summit.
“We urge all motorists plying these sections of the road to replan their journeys accordingly, and any inconvenience is regretted,” the notice added.
The Rironi–Nakuru–Mau Summit Highway is a key infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity between Nairobi and Kenya’s western regions. By reducing travel time and easing the movement of goods and passengers, the road is expected to benefit motorists, businesses, and local communities along the corridor.
The Rironi–Nakuru–Mau Summit Highway dualling is set to begin on November 28, 2025, with President William Ruto officiating the groundbreaking ceremony. The project was originally planned to start earlier in 2025, but it was delayed for a redesign to accommodate increased traffic.
The project will be undertaken by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), through its subsidiary China Roads and Bridges Corporation (CRBC).
KeNHA also provided contact details for inquiries or support during the launch. “For all your enquiries email us on: [email protected]. Toll Free Line: 0800-211-244. Customer Care: 0700 423 606,” the statement read.
Acting Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli encouraged road users to remain patient and exercise caution while using alternative routes. KeNHA reaffirmed its commitment to delivering quality highways and safer, more reliable connections across the country.
With the launch of the Rironi–Nakuru–Mau Summit Highway, the Authority expects smoother travel, improved road safety, and better access to key towns, marking a major milestone in Kenya’s infrastructure development.
